About Tarangire National Park & Wildlife

Tarangire National Park

Tarangire National Park is one of northern Tanzania’s most scenic safari destinations, shaped by the Tarangire River, open savannah and iconic baobab trees. The park is particularly famous for its large elephant herds, which can often be seen moving through the landscape or gathering around water.

Tarangire is also home to lions, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes and many other species. During the drier months, wildlife becomes increasingly concentrated around the river and other remaining water sources, creating excellent conditions for game viewing.

The park also forms part of the wider Great Migration ecosystem. Between approximately October and December, large numbers of wildebeest and zebras may move through the Tarangire area, although their presence and exact location vary from year to year.

In 2025, Tarangire received international recognition as Africa’s Leading Elephant Paradise National Park, reflecting its reputation as one of Africa’s outstanding destinations for elephant viewing.
