Udzungwa Mountains waterfall during a Tanzania safari hike4-Day Mikumi & Udzungwa Mountains Safari

Savannah, Waterfalls & Active Safari Adventure

This private Tanzania safari from Dar es Salaam combines a Mikumi National Park safari with an active experience in Udzungwa Mountains National Park, offering a different perspective on a classic safari.

In Mikumi National Park, you explore open savannah landscapes on game drives in a private Toyota Land Cruiser safari vehicle with a pop-up roof, with good opportunities to see lions, elephants, giraffes, and other wildlife. In Udzungwa Mountains National Park, the experience shifts from vehicle to foot, with a guided hiking safari through tropical rainforest leading to the 170-meter-high Sanje Waterfalls, the largest waterfall in Tanzania.

The program also includes a visit to a traditional Maasai village, adding a cultural dimension to the safari.

This is a private safari, allowing flexibility throughout the trip.

The tour starts and ends in Dar es Salaam.

Why this safari is different

Behind your safari

Your safari is organised by Tanzania Safari Experts – ROM & DACE SAFARIS, a licensed Tanzanian tour operator specialising in tailor-made private safaris – from planning your itinerary to making sure everything works smoothly on the ground. Behind every safari is a local team with knowledge, experience and a deep understanding of Tanzania and its wildlife.Tanzania Safari Experts – ROM & DACE SAFARIS team with a Toyota Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof in Tanzania

Our company is led by Roman and Dace. Dace brings a European traveller’s perspective, while Roman brings deep, first-hand knowledge of Tanzania, its places and people, and how safari works on the ground. Dace and Roman do not accompany every safari – they are the people behind the company and the journeys it organises. When you are in Tanzania, they are available if you need assistance or support.

Your safari is led by our local safari driver-guides, and you travel in your own Toyota Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof.

A private safari means you do not share the vehicle with other travellers – you have your own vehicle and driver-guide, and the pace of each day can be adapted to the conditions in the wild and to your interests.

Your safari booking starts with a conversation. Once the programme and travel dates have been agreed, the safari booking is confirmed with the first 50% payment. Once we receive it, we begin booking the accommodation and organising your safari. The remaining 50% must be paid no later than one month before the start of the safari.

About the Parks and Experiences You’ll Encounter

Mikumi National Park

A classic safari destination in southern Tanzania, known for its wide open plains framed by baobab trees and mountain backdrops. The park offers strong chances to see elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, and buffaloes, with a landscape that feels open and easy to explore. Its accessibility from Dar es Salaam also makes it one of the most practical safari options.

Maasai Village Experience

A visit to a traditional Maasai village, offering insight into daily life, customs, and community structure. Rather than a performance, this is a simple and direct cultural interaction, where you can observe how the Maasai live, build, and maintain their traditions in today’s world.

Udzungwa Mountains National Park

A unique park focused on landscapes and biodiversity rather than classic game drives, with habitats ranging from tropical rainforest to mountain forest. The main experience is a guided hike through the forest to Sanje Waterfalls — the largest in Tanzania at around 170 meters — where you can swim in natural pools surrounded by dense greenery.
