Zebra in Mikumi National Park during a Tanzania safari

2-Day Mikumi National Park Safari from Dar es Salaam

Quick safari retreat with overnight inside the park

This 2-day Mikumi National Park safari from Dar es Salaam is a short but immersive Tanzania safari experience, ideal for travelers with limited time.

This short Mikumi safari is designed to give you a complete wildlife experience in a limited time, focusing on the most active hours of the day.

On this private safari, you explore the open savannah landscapes of Mikumi National Park on game drives in a 4x4 safari jeep, with good chances to see lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, and other wildlife.

A key advantage of this itinerary is overnight accommodation inside the park, allowing you to experience wildlife activity during the most active hours — early morning and sunset.  This allows you to enjoy both a sunrise game drive and a sunset game drive, which are not possible on safaris staying outside the park.

Unlike longer safaris, this itinerary is designed to maximise wildlife viewing within a short timeframe.

This short Mikumi safari is suitable for both solo travelers and groups and offers flexibility throughout the trip.

The private Mikumi safari tour starts and ends in Dar es Salaam.

Why staying inside the park matters

Staying overnight inside Mikumi National Park allows you to experience wildlife during the most active hours — sunrise and sunset — when predators hunt and animal activity is at its peak. This creates a more complete safari experience compared to standard short safaris.

Park Overview and Wildlife

Mikumi National Park

Known as the “Little Serengeti” due to its wide, open plains, Mikumi is one of the most accessible parks in Tanzania with consistently good wildlife visibility. It’s often described as an “African wildlife reception,” where animals are naturally present across the landscape — from large herds of herbivores to predators like lions. With more time in the park, early morning and late afternoon drives increase the chances of more elusive sightings, including leopard.
